Renowned Iranian traditional singer Mohammad Motamedi will perform at Errichetta Festival VII on Friday, January 13, in Rome, Italy.
He will sing songs by Persian poets Attar and Rumi; the pieces are produced by the European-based Iranian musician brothers Pouya and Mani Khoshravesh, ILNA reported.
The ensemble includes Pouya on kamancheh (knee fiddle), Mani (ney), their other brother Nima on setar, and Arman Sigarchi (oud) and Reza Samani (percussion).
On January 15, Motamedi will hold a workshop on the art of ‘Avaz’ (in Persian traditional singing), the unmetered vocal section of a mode in Persian classical music.
Specifically he will focus on the intricate relationship between poetry and music and the way one can be used to shape the other. Included in this will be an introduction to the Iranian musical system ‘Radif’. He will also discuss how these concepts can be applied to all kinds of music and songs.
Motamedi, 38, started singing and playing ney (Middle-Eastern flute-like wind instrument) from adolescence.
So far he has collaborated with many local classical groups as well as the Iranian National Orchestra. He has released over 15 albums and has held several performances in Iran, Italy, Poland, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Turkey, Belgium and the US.
Every year, the Errichetta Festival organizes workshops and master classes led by the invited artists in order to share this exceptional heritage with professional, amateur musicians and music lovers. This is a rare opportunity to meet in person and learn these traditions, usually out of reach, directly from the masters. This year’s festival is slated for January 13-15.
